This satellite conference provided an overview of community schools - what they are, how they are funded and how they help to form linkages between schools and community services. It focused on mental health services as a key component of a community school. The conference highlights one community school -- the Washington Irving Middle School in Boston, MA, which has combined the efforts of the public schools and a nonprofit group, the Alliance for Inclusion and Prevention, to meet the needs of emotionally disturbed youth and provide prevention services to youth at risk in the school.
